This award honors the legacy and tenacity of beloved local farmer, Sam Wiseman, by recognizing St. Louis-area farmers and growers who champion regenerative farming practices and encourage people to reconnect with their food systems.

We welcome nominations for the 2026 inaugural Sam Wiseman Be Bold Award, to be presented at Known & Grown’s Spring Farmer Festival on May 3rd, 2026.

About Sam Wiseman

Sam started Sunflower Savannah with her husband, Billy, in 2000 and dedicated herself to producing the healthiest food possible and sharing it with everyone she could. As an active member of Known & Grown and a founding vendor at the Tower Grove Market, she loved feeding her community and supporting farmers. Sam championed regenerative farming practices, heritage breeds, and relished in introducing people to new foods with real flavor. As spicy as her famous salsa, Sam stood firm in her beliefs as a Christian and as a farmer trying to make the world a better place. Her farm was open to friends and volunteers to share her knowledge, enjoy a potluck, and end the day with a swim in The Lake.
