Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering for Known & Grown’s Spring Farmer Festival! As a grassroots organization with a small staff, we appreciate all the helping hands that make our events a success.
This year’s Spring Farmer Festival will be held at Midtown STL’s community garden, located at 4467 Hunt Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110 on Sunday, may 3rd from 1-4pm. Volunteer shifts are available between 11am-6pm. Most shifts will be 1.5-2 hours long. You are welcome to sign up for more than one shift. Alternatively, if you would like to volunteer but can’t commit to an entire shift, please reach out to Emily to discuss – Emily@GatewayFarmers.org

Accessibility:
- Wheelchairs and mobility aids: The sidewalk in front of the garden where a portion of the festival will be held is wheelchair and mobility-aid accessible. The entrance to the garden is up a sloped, paved incline. Once inside the garden, the ground is grassy and uneven and may be difficult to navigate with a wheelchair or mobility aid.
- Seating: We will have seating available throughout the event and can provide a seat for you at your volunteer station if desired.
- Masking: The festival will be outdoors, masks are not required but it will be a mask-friendly space.
- Noise: We have a musician providing live music throughout the event.
- Weather: This is an outdoor event and spring weather can be unpredictable.
-VOLUNTEER ROLES-
Event Setup
Volunteers will be prepping the garden and sidewalk for the event. This will involve setting up tables, chairs, trash collection stations, and signage. Please note that this role may involve lifting and carrying heavy items.
Time: 11a – 1pm (2 hour shift)

Check-In
Check-in volunteers will be stationed on either side and in front of the garden greeting attendees, checking their tickets, and helping them purchase a ticket if needed.

Children’s Activities
Children’s Activities volunteers will be assisting children with craft activities, monitoring supplies, and keeping materials organized.

Zero Waste
Zero waste volunteers will be helping us keep Midtown community garden free and clear of waste by picking up trash and helping direct attendees to trash and composting receptacles. This role may also involve replacing trash bags if they get full. Please note that this role requires standing and walking.
Time: 1-2:30pm (1.5 hour shift)

Pie Contest
Pie contest volunteers will set up the pie contest table, help direct attendees who are donating pies to the contest, welcome judges, and help serve pie. They will also help clean up the table after the 2pm pie contest and assist with our live pie auction.

Event Cleanup
Event cleanup volunteers will help the Known & Grown team clean up the venue after the event, including breaking down tables and chairs and other equipment and loading them into a truck, cleaning up trash and loading trash bags into the truck for disposal, and other miscellaneous tasks. Please note that this role requires lifting and carrying heavy items.
Time: 4-6pm (2 hour shift)
