“We focus on producing sustainable chickens, eggs, and hogs.”
Rustic Roots Farm grinds and mixes their own feed rations which are carefully monitored to provide exactly what each species of animal needs based on age, temperature and season. They make their own compost which is used in all facets of growing on the farm, including their own custom potting mix. They use block making tools in the greenhouse to avoid too much agricultural plastic. Building soil was the theme of our conversation.
They have cattle, but not for sale. The cattle are used to eat and stomp down forages, and to spread their manure over the pastures so Bobby and Mindy can grow high quality forage for their poultry and hogs. Their passion for sustainably raised food and constant research are evident throughout the farm.
