“We are locally raised farmers raising locally raised beef,
vegetables, and fruit.”
Althoff Farms got started in 2012 when we got some cows to put in the pasture at the home farm. Dan had raised cows in his youth and had until a few years before that. He missed it and decided he wanted to start again.
We started with quarters of grainfed and grassfed beef. From there we started selling by the piece and doing farmer’s markets, selling to a small store, and a food co-op. Due to a loss of pasture, we now offer non-GMO grain-fed beef.
Educating the public on what good meat is has been the most rewarding part. Once people try our meat, they come back for more.
The most challenging part is dealing with the weather. We’ve had a wide variety of weather over the years, from mild winters, to below zero temperatures, hot dry summers, to this spring of record rain and flooding. It’s hard work, but we wouldn’t change it for anything.
