“MOshrooms Regenerative Microfarm strives to close the loop on agricultural and residential food waste while building soil and creating valuable, ethical products during the process.”
MOshrooms Regenerative Microfarm is an eco-conscious, woman-owned business in Ellisville, Missouri, focused on turning waste into resource that was established by Danielle Meert in 2019. In an effort to reduce flooding and erosion in her backyard, Danielle is working with the natural landscape to capture and utilize rainwater to grow gourmet mushrooms and other shade tolerant edible native plants and herbs. She is converting her entire half-acre suburban yard in the heart of Rockwood School District into edible landscaping, pollinator gardens and wildlife habitat.
Danielle is partnering with Second Hen’d, a local nonprofit founded by military veteran Erica Camp, to rehome spent hens as part of her PTSD therapy.
Not only do these adorable creatures bring joy to everyone’s day, they are also a key component to our food waste diversion program. Our chickens and ducks eat the food waste collected from MOshrooms’ food waste pick-up subscribers and we compost what is leftover. The entire composting process takes about one year from start to finish.
