About Fresh Pasture Farms:

Fresh Pasture Farms is a multi-generational, family-owned farm located in Millstadt, Illinois, less than 30 minutes from downtown St. Louis, Missouri. They are known for their wide variety of high-quality, pasture-raised meats and eggs which are available year-round in their on-farm store.

About Your Farmers

The Sutter family currently has three generations working on the farm every day: Norm and Sandy, their son Wade and his wife Jaime, and their two boys Caleb and Nolan.

Norm and Sandy have been involved with the farm for the majority of their over 40 years of marriage. In the early days, they were grain farmers; they later moved to stocker cattle, buying calves from the sale barn in the spring and selling them back in the fall. This gave them some background into grazing and managing pastures. They began building the sheds that now house our farm store in 2006, but FPF wasn’t totally on the radar yet. They had an interest in raising and finishing cattle on grass to sell, but after meeting with a consultant, found out there wasn’t enough land to do so as a business without adding other animals to the mix. Since both still worked full time off the farm, that wasn’t an option at the time.

Wade hadn’t originally planned to be part of the farm as an adult, but when he found himself unemployed in 2009, he started working on fencing and other small projects around the farm until he could figure out what his next steps were. He knew of the plans to raise cattle on the farm and started reading some of the books and papers accumulated over the years. God planted the seed in his heart to raise poultry on pasture to sell and gave him the vision to do so.

Mobility & Accessibility Considerations:

  • This is a walking tour that will not be accessible for most with mobility aids.
  • You may experience some uneven ground surfaces.
  • Rain prior to the event may cause the ground to be muddy.
  • Collapsible stools are available for mobile seating.
  • Masks are welcome but not required.

Children:

Children are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian. Please include all children in your registration. Children’s tickets (age 3-17) are a reduced rate. Kids under 2 and under are free.

Farm Tours occur rain or shine. Please dress for the weather and the terrain. Many Farm Tours include navigating uneven or muddy surfaces, around equipment, and in a range of weather conditions.

We recommend that you bring:

  • Close-toed shoes (comfortable for walking)
  • Sun protection (cap or hat, sunscreen)
  • Water bottle
  • Rain jacket or poncho (depending on the forecast)
  • Your family (Children are welcome with adults! Please be mindful of the potential dangers on a working farm, including electric fence, difficult terrain, animals and equipment.)

Please DO NOT bring:

  • Dogs or other pets (service dogs, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, are permitted)
  • Professional camera or recording equipment, photos for personal use are acceptable
  • Promotional materials or solicitations, unless you are invited to do so

We ask for special attention to biosecurity at events with livestock. While this is good practice at all farms, clean shoes and clothes are particularly important due to the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and other livestock pathogens.

Wear clean shoes or boots that have not been worn on other farms with livestock or livestock buildings, or around a dense population of wild birds. Upon request of the farmer host, you may be asked to disinfect shoes or boots upon arrival. Wear clean clothes that have not been worn around other livestock.

About our Farm Tour Series

Our 2026 Farm Tour Series gives you the chance to visit your local farms in person, get a realistic look at what goes into creating the food you place on your tables, and get to know the real people who produce that food. This series of events showcases the diversity of working farms in the greater St Louis region, including vegetables, livestock, mushrooms, fruits, flowers, and more! The price of your ticket honors a local farmer’s time and expertise, helps them to diversify their revenue, and supports Known & Grown’s ability to continue to offer farmer-focused, community-oriented programming. This is a family-friendly event and a great outing for visitors of all ages, abilities, and interests. All are welcome.

This event is supported by the Conservation Federation of Missouri.
