
Bustani Ya Upenda, Good Journey’s youth community garden, provides fresh and organic food for youth, families, and the community, while employing youth, and teaching youth and community members lessons in growing food with our own hands.
Bustani Ya Upenda includes growing beds, fruit trees and bushes, herbs, native plants and flowers, sunflowers, an arbor for growing grapes, a firepit for S’mores, greenhouse, shed with painted murals by MwazaCarol and Miiyaya, peaceful zen space with benches, fountain, and an African Shona sculpture, covered outdoor kitchen with charcoal grill, stove top burners, brick pizza oven, and sink for cooking lessons and more, and coming soon – the Good Journey Agriculture Learning Center & Community Pantry.
Bustani Ya Upenda events and activities include Black Trivia & S’mores, Freedom 2 Learn Banned Books Reading & Art Making, Juneteenth Night Party, STEM Experiments, Building with Black Girls Build Inc., National Night Out, Ghosts In The Garden, Kwanzaa Celebration, First Saturdays Monthly Harvest Days, and more.
