We understand that transportation can be a major barrier for some farmers and limit their ability to participate in certain market channels. Lack of reliable transportation, wear and tear on vehicles (often also needed for personal use), lack of additional labor, and time spent away from the farm are all cited as limiting factors. We aim to reduce those limitations with our Delivery Service so farmers can spend more time, money, and energy actually farming.
What is the Delivery Service?
Our service provides refrigerated transportation of farm products.
How does it work?
We will pick up farm products using our truck and refrigerated trailer and transport those products to your wholesale buyers in the St Louis region. You maintain a direct relationship with your buyers, communicate to secure orders, and handle all invoicing and payments. If you need support connecting with buyers, we can assist you in forming those relationships and provide additional resources to navigate the wholesale market. Who is this for?
This service is for any farmer within 200 miles of St Louis. Priority is given to sustainable farms; limited resource farmers, and farms whose owners predominantly identify as women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and/or veterans. Farmers are not required to be Known & Grown members to utilize this service.
How do I participate?
Farmers should connect to our team by email: delivery@gatewayfarmers.org or by phone: 314.561.7010 (ext 3) to discuss your needs and schedule a pick-up and delivery of your farm products.
What is the cost?
We strive to make this service as accessible as possible. If your farm meets any of the below criteria, the service is offered at no cost.

- LGBTQ+ owned
- Veteran-owned
- Limited Resource farmer (determine using this calculator)
- Delivery into a low-access area
For all other farmers, we offer a suggested rate of $5-40 depending on distance traveled, due at the time of service.
- ≤ 10 miles: $5
- ≤ 20 miles: $10
- ≤ 45 miles: $20
- ≤100 miles: $30
- ≤200 miles: $40
When does the Delivery Service run?
This service is available all year round. Delivery schedules and routes are dynamic depending on farmer need.
